Bill in parliament

A law to simplify public-sector paperwork

In plain languageThe government wants you to fill in fewer forms. Offices would share the data you already gave them, so you do not have to repeat it.
Illustrative example, not a real initiative.
The problem

Laws shape your life. Few people can read them.

Official texts are long, technical and scattered across many places. Most of us only see a headline, and parliaments rarely hear what ordinary people actually think.

Hard to read

Legal language keeps important decisions out of reach.

Easy to miss

New bills and decrees appear every week, with no simple way to follow them.

No easy way to answer

Between elections, citizens have almost no channel to react.

How it works

From official text to your voice in three steps

  1. We watch the official sources

Plebiscitum follows bills in parliament and decrees in the official gazette, and flags what is open for opinion.

  2. We explain it in plain language

Short sentences, everyday words, no jargon. Always linked to the official text so you can check it.

  3. You vote, we count

In favour, against or abstain. When voting closes, we send the aggregated count, with no personal data, to the official mailboxes of parliament.

It makes sense

Whether citizens find the idea of voting on real initiatives useful.

Every summary links to the official text. AI can make mistakes, and we say so.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Plebiscitum?

Plebiscitum is a free civic platform that explains parliamentary bills and government decrees in plain language and lets registered citizens vote in favour, against or abstain. The aggregated results are then sent to parliament.

Is it an official consultation? Are the votes binding?

No. Plebiscitum is an independent project. Votes are not binding and are not an official poll. They show what the people using the platform think.

Who can vote today?

Right now the public beta is open to residents of Spain, at plebiscitum.es. Registration asks for a name, email, ID or NIE, a Spanish mobile number and an address, only to ensure one person has one account. Everyone else can read this site and tell us where they would like it next.

How are the explanations written?

An AI model writes them from the official text, in short sentences and everyday words. It can make mistakes, so each initiative links to the official source, which always prevails.

Does Plebiscitum recommend how to vote?

Never. We explain what is being decided so that each person can form their own opinion.

What happens to the votes?

When voting on an initiative closes, we add up all votes and send the aggregated count, without personal data, to the official mailboxes of the parliament concerned.

Is my vote private?

Results are only ever shown as totals. No one can look up how a specific person voted through the platform, and your ID number is never stored in clear, only as an irreversible hash.

Is it free? Are there ads?

It is free for citizens, with no ads and no selling of data.

When will it reach my country?

We are exploring versions for Spanish-, English-, German- and French-speaking countries, but we have no dates to announce. Write to us and tell us where you would like it.

Can I install it as an app?

Yes. Plebiscitum is a progressive web app: install it from your browser or add it to your home screen, and optionally turn on notifications for new votes.
